Printed material, drawings, correspondence, notes, photographs, and writings by or relating to Wyndham Lewis, gathered by Charles Handley-Read. There are 61 letters to and from the Redfern Gallery relating to a retrospective exhibitions of Wyndham Lewis' oils, watercolors and drawings, from May 5-28, 1949. Included are letters from Naomi Mitchison, and Charles Handley-Read, a printed invitation to the opening, and the corrected typescripts of the two forewards to the catalogue by Michael Ayrton and Wyndham Lewis. Other correspondence consists of five letters to Charles Handley-Read dating from July 1949 to Jan. 1950, concerning the publication of Handley-Read's book, The Art of Wyndham Lewis; three letters from Eric Newton to Charles Handley-Read dated Mar.-Nov. 1950 concerning the writing of his critical foreward to Handley-Read's book. There is also a printed menu design for the Cabaret Theatre Club, "The Cave of the Golden Calf," with autograph retouching, with a reproduction of "A wall decoration in the Cave of the Golden Calf" by Wyndham Lewis. With two pencil drawings of male heads in profile, and notes and letter drafts by Charles Handley-Read concerning his book on Wyndham Lewis, with two photographs of Lewis.
